A rare and characterful Dutch sink, expertly carved from “Petit Granit” limestone, a dense, fossil-rich blue-black to black-grey stone renowned for its exceptional durability and resistance to wear. The front features a beautifully carved, recessed cartouche-shaped ornament.
The entire piece displays a crisp, hand-chiseled finish, retaining the distinctive parallel tool marks of its original craftsmanship. Honest wear and minor losses to the edges are present, consistent with its age and long use (please refer to the photographs). The back and underside remain roughly hewn, as originally intended for installation against a wall and within a masonry structure.
Structurally sound and free from cracks or breaks, the basin remains fully functional. The interior has a smoothly finished surface, allowing for effective water drainage.
