A rare and exceptionally characterful early 18th-century French Rouge Antique marble sink, distinguished by its sober, highly geometric architecture and finely carved recessed panels to the front and lateral sides.
The richly veined marble displays an exquisite palette of subtle purple, deep red, warm grey and creamy tones, creating a quietly dramatic surface with considerable depth and movement.
The sink retains the marks of its long history, including gentle wear and original tool marks to both the exterior and interior surfaces. There is one small loss to the upper front rim, as illustrated, together with several smaller and unobtrusive losses along the lower and rear edges. The basin has excellent drainage towards the original drain opening and is completely watertight.
Despite these minor imperfections, the sink remains in excellent and fully usable condition, with its age, patina and beautifully weathered surfaces contributing greatly to its character and authenticity.
