An exceptional 18th-century oval marble font, expertly carved from black Cihigue marble, distinguished by its dense composition and naturally veined surface. The font displays a tapered body rising to a substantial moulded rim.
The marble exhibits an attractive deep charcoal tone with lighter serpentine veining throughout.
Condition: The piece survives in excellent, fully serviceable condition, presenting minor chips and small, unobtrusive losses along the upper rim and body, commensurate with age and use. The surface retains a soft, time-worn patina that enhances its historical character. Importantly, there are no cracks, no structural breaks, and the basin remains perfectly watertight, making it suitable for continued practical use.
