A particularly fine and rare 18th century sink carved from richly figured Breccia marble, known as Brèche Orientale, formerly quarried in southern France. The marble consists of broken pieces (clasts) of various colours and sizes that are naturally fused together under geological pressure. This creates a unique, irregular mosaic-like pattern. It displays a striking natural composition of black, white, beige, and warm brown fragments, giving the surface a vivid and decorative appearance.
The sink has an oblong form with rounded front corners and a cartouche shaped interior basin. A well-defined bolection moulding - a raised, curving profile typical of the 18th century - runs along the front and sides, adding an elegant architectural detail. The inner basin is smooth an ensures perfect water drainage.
The marble’s surface displays visible wear consistent with age and use: a soft patina, faint scratches, and small losses along the upper and lower edges. Structurally sound, with no cracks or breaks.
