A substantial, 18th century oval black stone font

Reference N°:

268

An exceptional oval font carved from dark black “petit granit” limestone, notable for its fine inclusions of small white fossils. This piece features a gracefully shaped, oval drum body resting on a tapered base. The font retains its original dovetail joint with a chiseled finish at the back, designed for secure wall mounting.

The upper rim is adorned with an elegant convex moulding, adding a refined architectural touch to its robust form. The interior is smoothly finished, ensuring perfect water drainage, while the exterior shows a beautifully aged patina.

In very good condition overall, with wear consistent with age and use. Minor chips and scuffs are visible on the upper rim and body, and there is a small, unobtrusive loss on the right side of the base (see images for detail).
