An early 18th century, French marble sink

SOLD

Reference N°:

266-25

A rare, early 18th-century French rectangular marble sink, finely carved from Noir Cihigue marble, characterised by its deep black coloration with natural white veining. The sink features a central oval basin with a distinctive “bird’s beak” rim.

The marble surface displays a natural patina acquired over time, with areas of wear particularly visible on the lateral drainboards and within the basin, attesting to its age and use. Minor chips and edge losses are present, including one notable loss at the left corner (see images). The bottom of the basin is smoothly finished, ensuring efficient water drainage.

The rear and lateral backside surfaces remain roughly hewn, consistent with the piece’s original architectural integration into a wall.

Despite its age, the sink remains in excellent, usable condition — structurally sound and visually striking,
