A rare and exceptionally characterful rectangular marble sink, France, 18th century. Beautifully carved from richly veined rose and white marble, featuring an elegant cavetto moulding to the front and lateral sides. The back and rear portions of the sides remain roughly hewn, as originally intended to be set into a stone or plaster wall.
The marble displays a superbly weathered, natural surface with a soft, timeworn patina that speaks to centuries of use. One small, unobtrusive loss to the inner front edge, otherwise in excellent and fully usable condition. No cracks or breaks, structurally sound and perfectly water tight.
A remarkable example of 18th-century French craftsmanship.
