A mid-18th century "Rouge Griotte" marble font

A rare, mid 18th century semi circular font, carved from richly coloured Rouge Griotte marble. The font features a moulded body with elegant curvature and fine proportions. The marble displays its characteristic deep red ground with lighter veining.

Condition: Surface wear consistent with age and use; a few small chips and minor losses along the rim; small loss to the back edge. (see photographs for details) No cracks or breaks. Structurally sound and in excellent, usable condition.

Salvaged from a town house in Lyon, France, ca. 1750
