A remarkable, mid-18th cent. Breccia marble sink

SOLD

Reference N°:

195-24

A rare, 18th century French marble sink, carved out of a highly decorative Breccia marble, once quarried near the city of Perpignan, Southern France.

The body has a rectangular shape with two cut away, convex corners at the front. The inner basin features beautifully carved quarter round, convex corners. Elaborate bolection moulding on the front and lateral sides of the body.

Several small chips, scuffs and losses on the body, but generally in very good, usable condition. The inner surface of the sink is smooth and allows a perfect drainage of the water. No cracks or breaks, structurally sound and perfectly water tight. General wear of the surface of the marble, consistent with age and use.
