A substantial, early 18th c. French limestone sink

A rare, unusually shaped rectangular stone kitchen sink. Carved out of a beautifully veined grey/brown limestone, once quarried in Northern France. The sink features a lowered, moulded front side, adorned with two, original stone plugs inserted into the body. Scroll shaped, lateral sides rising up to the back of the sink, which serves as splash back. The inner and outer surfaces of sink show a beautifully chiseled and hammered finish. A few small losses, chips and scuffs on the edges. Some wear at the bottom of the sink, the inner surface however is generally smooth and allows a perfect water drainage. No cracks or breaks, structurally sound.
