A late 18th / early 19th century Dutch stone sink

A good, rectangular black stone sink, carved out of "Petit Granit" limestone. The front adorned with a beautifully carved bolection moulding. Delicate chiseled finish on the body and inner sides. One small loss on the left, front corner (please refer to pictures). Some light wear at the bottom, consistent with age and use. The inner surface of the sink is smooth though and allows a perfect water drainage. No cracks or breaks. Structurally sound and perfectly water tight. "Petit Granit" limestone has a unique texture with its characteristic, fossilised white shells and other organic inclusions.

Salvaged from a town house in Middelburg, Southern Netherlands, ca. 1800
